How to Teach a Dog to Stay
At Ridley K9 Academy we view the stay command as a separate command from your sit and down position commands. By commanding your dog to stay they should not move from the place your put them. However, they can get comfortable in any position they like as long as they stay. This is a very useful command!
The action of your dog halting or stopping and not moving from location you have commanded them. The stay command is a very useful command and does not require a position. This means we do not command them to “Sit” or “Down”. We just use the command to “Stay” giving our dogs to choose the position they are comfortable in.
